These two nights figure prominently in one thread of western spirituality, but what are they, what are their characteristics, and what purpose do they serve? This workshop will address these questions.

Join Christ the King Lutheran Church, West Campus on Memorial Drive, for Ash Wednesday service from Noon - 1pm followed by Ashes to Go if you are short on time from 1:00pm - 2:00pm. Ash Wednesday is the beginning of a journey, the journey to the Cross. The Season of Lent is usually seen as a penitential season but rather than focusing on guilt, perhaps it is a time to focus on growing into who God calls us to be. As we begin this Lenten season, let it be a season of growth, a season of letting go, a season of turning toward the life that God envisions for us. The world tells us to take everything we get in this life, to breathe in all there is. But Ash Wednesday is the day when we begin to finally breathe out so that God can fill us yet again.
When God wants to do something new in your life, to give you a new beginning, are you able to surrender and let God direct your path? Let's explore what those barriers might be, preventing you from saying, "Yes" to being transformed according to God's plan.

We live in a time that is filled with divisiveness and that has also seeped into our faith and the way we express it and journey through it. What does it mean to say that you believe? Join us as we figure out a way to put these two—religion and spirituality—back together, not as competing factions, but as a way of creating bridges along our faith journey.
Drawing upon the seminal work of Corinne Ware ( in her book, Discover Your Spiritual Type), this workshop will see us exploring the basis and nature of four general spiritualities (emanating from primary orientations of a person’s head and heart), unpacking specific prayer forms amenable to each style, and fleshing out implications for spiritual direction – specific to each spiritual type as well as those seeking “balance.”
Join us the first Saturday of each month for Contemplative Prayer to prepare us to experience God's presence within us. This is a free in-person meeting at Emmaus Spirituality Center.

Faith tells us that the soul survives the death of the physical body, but is there secular evidence for this as well? This workshop discusses secular evidence for the ability of our consciousness to exist apart from our physical bodies as well as the implications of the available evidence for religious beliefs.

“On that day…” the disciples had to get away from the suffering, fear and hopelessness. They took to the road…the Road to Emmaus. Sometimes we need a Road to Emmaus where we can turn to the God of the resurrection for answers. It is on the road where Jesus walks with us in our suffering, fear and hopelessness, helping us to make sense of the things around us.
